Home-school agreement: model and examples

You're not required to have a home-school agreement. If you'd like to use one, download and adapt our primary and secondary models and see examples from other schools, to set clear expectations and promote effective partnerships with your school community.

28 January: we've updated our model agreements to reflect recent changes to our home-school communication policy – specifically, commitments about respectful communication between parents and staff. This is based on the DfE's staff wellbeing charter (see point 4 on page 6)

Agreements are no longer a requirement

Since 2016, schools aren't required to have a home-school agreement due to deregulation legislation.

You can continue to have 1 in place if you want to use it to outline clear expectations and partnerships, but there's no requirement to do so.

Primary schools

Albion Primary School in Southwark has a home-school agreement that outlines the school's commitments in areas such as:

  • Social media 
  • Pupil behaviour and attendance
